Boyd Gordon
A+

The only player to get an A+ in my book…and he deserved it. Always playing with his head up…makes good solid FLAT passes and can score. He was scoring left and right each and every day. Scoring up top…down low…both sides. He could be 15-25 goal scorer playing center…maybe more if moved to wing. He’s plays very smart and doesn’t make hardly any mistakes. And everyone stop saying his likes to hit because he’s not a big hitter….he’s just a great forechecker and backchecks as well.

Really stood out in the camp. Skates with power and has a very nice shot. Something I didn’t know about his play was the moves he possesses. He was turning heads left and right and was also making some good passes. Plays more of a power game than I though he did but that’s a good thing in my mind…but still could be stronger.

Andy Canzanello
C-

Didn’t do a whole lot to stand out but also didn’t really do anything to show he could play. Of the 7 D men at camp Id rank him 7th

Colin Peters
B+

Behind Eminger and Wellar….he was the best defender out there. Plays a Brendan Witt style game…without the whole standing against the post and not moving thing. Very physical and can also move the puck rather well. I think he would make an excellent addition to the Pirates. He played with Eminger quite a bit during the week.

Miroslav Durak
B-

Decent puck mover on the blue line. He’s a bit clumsy at times but the does have very good offensive skills. Didn’t get enough physical play to see how he would hold up in the Pros…but I do like his skating and offensive upside.

Steve Eminger
A

One of the best players on the ice….as he should be. Eminger has suchs great vision….he was making passes I didn’t think had a chance to get up the ice. Smooth skating and solid playing D…hands down the best defender in Camp. I think he’s could make the Caps out of Training Camp…(not that I want him too but he could very well start off in DC)

Aaron MacKenzie
B

I thought he played pretty good. Has OK size but he uses all of it very well. On Tuesday he was doing very well on the one on one drills…actually handling them better than some of the other D men. I really didn’t noticing him handling the puck much in scrimmages much…but I don’t think that’s what he excels in. Could be a player in Portland.

Matt Maglione
C+

Looked pretty good in the drills but was not as good in the scrimmage….Looked at bit lost at times. Besides that…I though he played some pretty sound hockey. Have to admit I didn’t watch him as closely as some of the others

Patrick Wellar
INC

He’s going to be a leader and pretty damn good defensman. He’s plays that game that you really don’t notice because he’s shutting everyone down (Well....Im starting to think I never really noticed him but someone I thought that was him...for that I had to grade him INC for incomplete). I really hope he’s signed this off season and plays in Portland. I still think he was a steal in the 3rd round.

Robert Gherson
B-

Still scrawny…but getting bigger. He’s defiantly a flopper…but he’s getting pretty good at doing it. His positioning seems to be a tad better than Daigneault but that flopping brings him down a bit IMO. I like his feistyness tho…good player.

Maxime Daigneault
B+

He had the better camp of the two goalies IMO. His technique is much improved over last season but he still needs to work on positioning. He leaves his glove side open. I think because he knows he has a fast glove hand.

Dylan Hunter
C

Didn’t stand out much the first 2 days I was there…but the last day I though he was one of the better players out there. It could have been he was trying harder than others….which is Classic “Hunter” play. I really don’t see the Caps offering him a deal….but just because of the name he could get another invite to Training Camp

Joni Lindlöf
D

Too be completely honest….I had no idea he was on the ice half the time. Was he even there??! I thought he looked a lot better at last years training camp.

Jevon Desautels
C+

Showed a little more offense than I knew he had. Pretty good skater with good size for a power forward. Didn’t get to show toughness….but that should come at TC

Mark Olafson
C-
I think he was drafted for his toughness…and that’s about it. Pretty slow skater….but is also kinda good for around the net. Reminds me of Peat with less speed and skating ability. I doubt he’ll ever be signed with Peat, Henry, and Stroshien all in the system.
Owen Fussey
A

Fussey has actually become a better passer over the past few seasons and its shows. He has some pretty good wheels and a nose for the net. I would still like him to be more aggressive attacking the puck and the net but besides that he’s looked pretty good. The Fussey – Gordon – Fehr line is going to be interesting to watch at TC

Tim Stapleton
B+
I love this kid. He’s always smiling and you can tell he’s having fun out there. Yes the size is an issue but I like watching him play. Appears to be a high energy and can shoot the hell out of the puck. Id love to see him get a shot in Portland…but that whole size thing is the only thing I see stopping him from moving forward. Hopefully he sticks around.
Eric Fehr
A
No idea he was this good. He was making some moves today that blew me away in the scrimmage. Very good skater with decent speed. He still needs to work on strength and getting bigger; he could easily be man handled at the Pro level at this point
Garrett Stroshien
C
Enforcer. Tall Enforcer. Never seeing him before I was expecting a slow moving doofy looking guy. But he actually moves pretty well for a big guy….Id like to see more of him in game action…
Stephen Werner
B
Fast. Hella fast. Great puck handling skills and big offensive upside. I think his defense is going to need some work but with his speed will help on that front. Needs about one more year of College and could be ready for the Pros…but will he take the chance?? Or stay in School? Only time will tell.
